Back to the Future is a fun, mostly lighthearted blockbuster. A fan-made trailer for a prequel is insanely intense.

Vimeo user Tyler Hopkins created a trailer for a faux prequel, 1.21 Gigawatts, which imagines how Doc Emmett Brown obtained the plutonium needed to power the his time-traveling DeLorean.

In the 1985 movie, Doc tells Marty McFly he acquired the plutonium by promising to create a bomb for Libyan terrorists. Hopkins’ trailer shows a younger Brown traveling to Libya and hunting down his power source.

Clips from Dennis the Menace, My Favorite Martian, Camp Nowhere, and Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead show a younger Lloyd, whereas scenes from Iron Man, Syriana, Zero Dark Thirty, and Argo help to flesh out the African setting. Clips from The Sum of All Fears, Dazed and Confused, and Munich were also used.
