Inside Out director Pete Docter nabbed the award for Best Animated Feature at Sunday’s Oscars, but he wasn’t the only one in his family who won big that evening: Docter used the thank-you crawl at the bottom of the screen to tell his kids that they’re getting a dog.

“I love you Amanda, Nick & Elie,” he wrote in the crawl, addressing his wife, son, and daughter, “okay yes, let’s get a dog.”

The Oscars introduced the crawl this year as a way to give winners a chance to thank everyone they wanted to without worrying about time constraints. The crawl was not visible to the people actually in the Dolby Theatre, although viewers watching on their televisions could see. See Docter’s (as well as co-winner Jonas Rivera’s) full crawl here.
