The Mummy reboot adds New Girl star Jake Johnson

New Girl actor Jake Johnson has joined the cast of Universal’s new take on The Mummy, EW has confirmed.

Alex Kurtzman, writer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Paramount’s 2009 Star Trek feature, will direct a cast that already includes Tom Cruise and Kingsman: The Secret Service actress Sofia Boutella. Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis is in talks to star opposite Cruise as the film’s female lead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the news of Johnson’s casting, the Let’s Be Cops star will play a member of the military, a role written specifically for him.

The Mummy will begin shooting in April with producers Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel. The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 9, 2017.
