Florence Foster Jenkins trailer

Even a lack of talent won’t stop Meryl Streep’s Florence Foster Jenkins as she aims to become an opera singer. It doesn’t hurt that she has plenty of passion (and enough wealth) to work toward that dream.

The new trailer for Florence Foster Jenkins showcases Streep in the titular role, based on the real-life New York socialite, as she realizes becoming a professionally performing singer is the life for her — no matter how often her voice fails to hit the right notes. She and her husband Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) go so far as to hire an accompanist, Cosmé McMoon (Simon Helberg), who does all he can to compensate for Jenkins lack of talent.

Watch the trailer above to see as Jenkins, Bayfield, and McMoon work toward a performance in Carnegie Hall. Florence Foster Jenkins, directed by Philomena‘s Stephen Frears, also stars Nina Arianda and Rebecca Ferguson, and is set to hit theaters in the U.K. on May 6.
