After Sacha Baron Cohen dumped ashes on Ryan Seacrest at the 2012 Oscars red carpet, he was put on a sort of “probation” by the organization. As a result, reviving Ali G at this year’s ceremony required some doing, as wife Isla Fisher explained to Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday.

“He said ‘I want to sneak in and do Ali G but I can’t find any of the costume on my body because they’re gonna put me through metal detectors and be ultra suspicious,’” Fisher said. “’Sweetie, will you fit giant yellow glasses, a hat, a glove, and a beard inside your spanx?’”

Kimmel pointed out that this made Fisher basically a “drug mule” for her husband. Fisher agreed, and then played some video of her putting the costume on Cohen in the Oscars bathroom. Fisher said she was really stressed out during the process, especially as Oscars producers kept knocking on the bathroom door. Fisher told them that Cohen was having stomach problems.

“I had to lie to everyone, which made me feel really guilty and then they gave me all these Tums, so I had to eat them so it wouldn’t look suspicious,” Fisher said. “Then he popped out with full Ali G gear and bolted on stage with Olivia Wilde. I saw her face and she was like, ‘oy vey.’”

Kimmel asked if they got yelled at afterwards, but Fisher said she was already gone by that point.

“I went straight to the bar, I’m not gonna lie,” Fisher said. “I bumped into Eddie Redmayne and had a drink.”

“You got in a lot of trouble Sunday night,” Kimmel said. “You might not be allowed to live in Los Angeles anymore, never mind the Oscars.”
