While we wait to see whether Peter Capaldi will be leaving his Doctor Who post after next season, the actor confirmed he’ll be getting a new companion.

Capaldi told Brazilian website Omelete (via NME) that “a new companion” will be coming “along any minute.” He continued, “Obviously I know who that is and we’ve been doing a bit of work together already, and it’s very exciting. Because it’s a very different sort of take on it.”

Actress Jenna Coleman played the most recent companion, Clara Oswald, primarily during Matt Smith’s stint as the Doctor. “Clara had prior knowledge of the Doctor. It was conceived as a human connected to your timeline, and so had access to the cosmic nature of the Doctor,” Capaldi explained. “She understood a little about how he was. And as she was already with Matt [Smith], she knew the Daleks and the TARDIS. Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor.”

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams was rumored to take over as the Doc’s new assistant, though the actress BANG Showbiz she’s “not going to be working on Doctor Who again.”
