Spoon! Amazon has cast the Tick.

EW has confirmed that British actor Peter Serafinowicz will portray the titular protagonist in the Amazon pilot, The Tick — a revival of the oddball superhero parody that existed first as a comic book in the late ’80s, then as an animated series from 1994–96, and later as a short-lived (though well loved) live-action show on Fox in 2001–02.

Ben Edlund, the cartoonist who created the character, the comic, and both TV series, is writing and executive producing the Amazon pilot. Edlund is joined by fellow original executive producer Barry Josephson and original studio Sony Pictures TV. Patrick Warburton, who played the Tick in the Fox series, is also expected to executive produce. Wally Pfister — the cinematographer behind Moneyball, Inception, and The Dark Knight trilogy — is directing.

The revival will see Serafinowicz’s blue-clad Tick recovering from amnesia and reuniting with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) and Arthur’s sister Dot (Valorie Curry), according to Deadline, which first reported the news.

Serafinowicz has appeared in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (with the line, “What a bunch of a-holes”), Shaun of the Dead, and as the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.
