Netflix orders Jonah Hill-Emma Stone dark comedy directed by Cary Fukunaga

Netfix has committed to a psych ward-set dark comedy starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

The streaming service has ordered 10 episodes of the series that is a reboot of the Norwegian series Maniac, EW has confirmed. All episodes will be directed by True Detective director/exec producer Cary Fukunaga, who serves as executive producer of the series alongside Hill and Stone. The original Maniac centered on a patient in a psychiatric institution who escaped his life by living out fantasies in his mind. In this version, Hill and Stone will both play patients.

Maniac represents a reunion of sorts for Hill (who was Oscar-nominated for Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street) and Stone (who nabbed an Academy Award nom for Birdman), both of whom were part of the Superbad cast, and it returns Fukunaga, who recently directed Beasts of No Nation, back to the Netflix fold. The series, which was first shopped around last week for a prospective buyer, is being produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content.
