Ice Cube and Common: Real People squashes feud

Barbershop: The Next Cut, the third installment of Ice Cube’s Barbershop film series, hits theaters in April, and leading up to its debut Ice Cube released a song Thursday where he teams up with Common. But the track represents more than two esteemed hip-hop veterans coming together for some one-off fun.

Ice Cube and Common had a beef in the ’90s, and now they lay it to rest on the new song “Real People.” “It’s a good day when it’s me and O’Shea,” Common raps, referencing Cube’s iconic 1992 song. “Ain’t no more beef, I put that on chief.”

“I think we’ve been fans of each other from afar,” Ice Cube said in a new Complex interview. “Our beef happened because of a misunderstanding. It was cool for us to sit down, talk to each other, and work that out as men.”

After Ice Cube perceived a lyric in Common’s 1994 classic “I Used to Love H.E.R.” as a sleight, the MCs traded diss tracks. Cube referred to Common during a verse on Mack 10’s “Westside Slaughterhouse,” and Common responded with his song “The Bitch in Yoo.”
