Lucifer, Rosewood renewed for season 2 by Fox

Fox has given the go-ahead to two freshman series.

Both Rosewood and Lucifer have been picked up for second seasons, the network announced Thursday.

“We knew we had something special with Lucifer, from the engaging performances of Tom [Ellis], Lauren [German], and the rest of the charismatic cast, to Len Wiseman’s visually stunning look of the show and the amazing storytelling savvy of the Bruckheimer team,” said Fox Entertainment president David Madden in a statement.

He added: “With Rosewood, creator Todd Harthan has put a fresh, playful spin on the procedural format, infusing it with wit and warmth, while Morris, Jaina and the show’s gifted supporting cast have turned in fantastic performances. We look forward to two stand-out sophomore seasons from both series.”

Lucifer stars Ellis as the titular anti-hero, based on the character of the same name found in DC Comic series The Sandman, created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. The series, a police procedural comedy-drama, averages 10.5 million total viewers across platforms, reports Fox. On Monday’s episode, “St. Lucifer,” the man himself will explore his good side, becoming a benefactor for the charity of a philanthropist found dead.

Rosewood stars Morris Chestnut as Beaumont Rosewood Jr., a private pathologist who works closely with law enforcement to solve cases in Miami, Florida. The series averages 7.8 million total viewers across platforms. Wednesday’s installment sees the good doctor investigating “the suspicious death of a man with medical issues similar to his own and adding to his stress, he finds himself trapped between Donna (Lorraine Toussaint) and his girlfriend/cardiologist, Dr. Erica Kincaid (guest star Joy Bryant), and their dueling opinions over what’s best for Rosewood — medically and personally.”
