The Voice: Michelle Obama and Jill Biden woo coaches

If The Voice coaches have their way, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will have a future in television — once a new administration is in place, of course.

The first and second ladies appeared on the May 2 episode of the singing competition to celebrate and honor the fifth anniversary of Joining Forces, an initiative they co-founded to support service members, veterans, and their families through job opportunities, employment resources, and easy access to wellness programs. Obama and Biden spoke about the anniversary prior to the top 10’s performances, which included “Home” by Dierks Bentley.

For a bonus clip, the women appeared with host Carson Daly and coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, and Christina Aguilera, and stumped everyone by being the only ones able to name Shelton songs like “Honeybee,” “Lonely Tonight,” and “Sangria,” among others. A grateful Shelton invited them to be coaches on the show, and Aguilera agreed, saying they could use more women around.

“We’re free — in January,” Obama said, pulling Biden and Aguilera into a hug. “I think this is a good trio here. We should do a chair turn to figure out which of you gets to be on our team.”
