Jumanj reboot: Dwayne Johnson welcomes Jack Black to cast

The players are gathering round for Sony’s Jumanji reboot.

A day after producer-star Dwayne Johnson teased some details of the project on Instagram, he once again took to social media to welcome Jack Black to the cast.

Posting a photo of Black and declaring himself a big fan, Johnson said the actor-comedian-musician “brings that rare balance of cool with funny and edge with childlike joy.”

Johnson also confirmed recent reports that his Central Intelligence costar Kevin Hart will have a role in Jumanji, which is based on Chris Van Allsburg’s Caldecott-winning children’s book about a jungle-themed board game whose dangers magically come to life. The story was previously brought to the screen in 1995, with a cast including Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst.

Character details have yet to be revealed, although Johnson has said that instead of the original movie’s three main roles, the reboot has five. The remaining two roles call for, in his words, “one bad-ass girl” and “one semi-sorta bad-ass dude.”

Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Orange County) is directing the Jumanji reboot, which is slated to hit theaters July 28, 2017.
