Freeform is taking a step back in time for its latest series, Dead of Summer, which premieres on June 28. Set in the late ’80s, the show follows a group of camp counselors who think they’re about to have a dream summer, but wind up facing some next-level evil (and we’re not just talking about the bratty campers). In this exclusive trailer, it’s pretty clear we’ve got some time yet before the younger kids show up at Camp Stillwater… and that’s probably a good thing.

“They say if you stare long enough, the water will star right back at you,” Jessie (Paulina Singer) coos in her skivvies as she gets ready to go for a night swim. That dip gets considerably less sexy when new girl Amy (Elizabeth Lail, Once Upon a Time) sees a body floating in the lake. And the summer turns even creepier as the cops show up and a deer winds up dead.

“Who will survive the summer?” the promo asks, while Amy, clutching a blanket, just wants to know: “What happens in the end?”

Dead of Summer is written and produced by the Once Upon a Time team of Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis, and Ian Goldberg. It also stars OUAT and Lost‘s Elizabeth Mitchell as Deb, the former camper who reopens Stillwater after it’s been shut down for years, as well as Ronen Rubinstein, Amber Coney, Eli Goree, Zachary Gordon, Mark Indelicato (Ugly Betty), and Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams.

Dead of Summer premieres on June 28 at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
