The Lumineers protest North Carolina's HB2

The band is protesting the state's HB2 law but will still play in Cary, North Carolina in September

The Lumineers are the latest rockers to take action in North Carolina. The band announced that they will protest the state’s HB2 law by providing gender neutral bathrooms at the concert in the Cary, North Carolina on September 15 and donating proceeds to charity.

The move follows that of artists like Dave Matthews Band and Cyndi Lauper who have protested HB2, a piece of legislation that dictates what bathrooms transgender persons are allowed to use in public, while still performing in the state. The Lumineers updated their website with a note detailing how they intend to protest after an introduction of the ways this legislation discriminates against the LGBT community.

“It is for these reasons that we are doing the following on SEPT 15:

1 – All of the profits from our performance at Koka Booth Amphitheater will be donated to EqualityNC and The HRC.

2 – We will provide gender neutral bathrooms at the Amphitheater.

3 – EqualityNC and The HRC will be on site collecting donations and passing out information on what you can do to help fight this discriminatory bill.

4 – A specialty T shirt will be on sale – the proceeds of which will go to Equality NC and The HRC.”

Then they offered a reward for fans taking stance themselves. “Anyone who donates more than $50 to EqualityNC will be eligible for a Soundcheck party and Meet and Greet that evening before the show,” the band promises.
