Neil Young slams Donald Trump for 'misogyny and racism'

Neil Young is not a supporter of Donald Trump.

During a pre-taped sketch on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show, the rock singer blasted Trump for his controversial views, explaining he didn’t want the Republican to use his song “Rockin’ in the Free World” for ideological reasons. “I didn’t like that idea because of the misogyny and the racism,” Young told host Stephen Colbert.

The back and forth between Young and Trump dates back to last June, when Trump announced his run for president and used Young’s famous protest anthem. After Young complained and distanced himself from the candidate, Trump blasted Young on social media, calling him a “hypocrite” over the fact that Young met with Trump to discuss his online music service. Of “Free World,” Trump added, “Didn’t love it anyway.”

This week, in an interview with Reuters, Young said he was okay with the “Free World” usage, because Trump received a license to use the track. “I mean, he said he did and I believe him. So I got nothing against him,” Young said. “You know, once the music goes out, everybody can use it for anything… But if the artist who made it is saying you never spoke to them, if that means something to you, you probably will stop playing it. And it meant something to Donald and he stopped.”
