St. Lucia debut Odyssean 'Help Me Run Away' music video

St. Lucia are about to make you look at shoes in an entirely new light. In the new music video for “Help Me Run Away,” which EW is excited to premiere below, the main character is just an absent pair of white Chuck Taylors, which travel from the East Coast to Southern California, racing after a pair of red high heels.

The video, directed by Norton, begins with a break-up — a woman storms out of a New York apartment and heads to Los Angeles. An anonymous man doesn’t go chasing after her, but his white sneakers do. What follows is a country-spanning journey, featuring a tattoo parlor, some beers, and several strangers who help the sneakers along the way.

“The idea of having disembodied shoes running around while I screamed ��Help Me RUN Away’ over the top just seemed too perfect not to do,” St. Lucia’s Jean-Philip Grobler tells EW in an email. He says they chose to use Chuck Taylors because “they’re the most classic Rock & Roll shoe, aren’t they?” He continues, “I’m not sure any other shoe is more iconic or recognisable than the white Converse All Star High Top. That, and nothing shows up dirt better than white.”

“Help Me Run Away” is the second single from St. Lucia’s ’80s-inspired synthpop album Matter, which EW named one of the best albums of 2016 so far. The track was co-written by Jack Antonoff. See the full video below.
