Director Luc Besson marked the last day of filming on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with a new set photo featuring stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.

In a message to the fans on the “last day,” Besson wrote on Instagram, “You don’t know how much it helps me to have you around! Your ‘likes,’ your kind words give me strength when somedays I don’t have so much.” He continued, “You were all part of my team and this support was priceless.”

Based on the comic book from the ’60s, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets follows crime-solving space agents Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne). The film’s cast also features Rihanna, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, John Goodman, and Rutger Hauer.

Besson, who directed sci-fi classic The Fifth Element, said James Cameron’s Avatar inspired him to finally go ahead and make Valerian. “I allowed myself much more freedom,” he told EW in an interview. “I centered the story to make it more real, more human. If you don’t like sci-fi, I want you to still like Valerian. And the other part was: Let’s try to do everything, before someone tells me its impossible.”

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is scheduled for theaters on July 21, 2017.
