Deadbeat: Hulu cancels Tyler Labine's supernatural comedy series

After three seasons, 36 episodes, and a revolving door of notable guest stars, it looks like Hulu will not renew Deadbeat, a supernatural comedy co-created by Cody Heller and Brertt Konner.

Tyler Labine, who stars in the series as Kevin “Pac” Pacalioglu, a lazy medium-for-hire who helps ghosts resolve unfinished earthly matters from their living days, announced the news via Twitter when he responded to a fan’s inquiry about the potential for a fourth season.

“Unfortunately it seems that #DeadbeatOnHulu is going into its light,” he wrote. “I’m super bummed and I will miss Pac dearly.”

The 38-year-old actor, who also starred in the short-lived ABC series Invasion and The CW’s Reaper, continued: “It’s officially cashed. Thank you to @BrettKonner, @codyhe11er & @Hulu for 3 awesome seasons. Business finished!”

News of the series’ cancellation seemingly came as a surprise to cast member Kal Penn, who joined the project during its third season. “NO seriously? Wait, I’m just gonna text you. this is terrible,” the Harold & Kumar actor tweeted at Labine.

Deadbeat, which also starred Brandon T. Jackson (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance), earned critical praise and a loyal fanbase during its run. James Franco, Finn Wittrock, Samantha Bee, Godfrey, Darrell Hammond, Jason Biggs, Efren Ramirez, and Fred Armisen have appeared on the series throughout its run, which began in 2014.

All episodes of Deadbeat are currently available to stream on Hulu. The streaming service didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
