The second season of SundanceTV’s Top of the Lake is getting an extra dose of star power as Nicole Kidman joins the cast in a small supporting role, EW can confirm.

According to the BBC, Kidman will co-star in the the upcoming season in an undisclosed part. The plot reportedly revolves around returning series lead Elisabeth Moss’ Det. Robin Griffin as she investigates a mysterious, unidentified body that washes ashore on Sydney’s Bondi Beach four years after the events of the first season.

Top of the Lake: Season Two follows the SundanceTV thriller’s critically-lauded first season, which premiered in 2013 and won Moss a Golden Globe for her performance. The series was co-created by Campion and Gerard Lee, who are co-writing the forthcoming season. Campion is set to direct two episodes of the second season, while Ariel Kleiman (Partisan) will direct four.

The 48-year old Australian-American actress previously worked with Campion on the 1996 costume drama The Portrait of a Lady. The film served as the New Zealand director’s follow-up to the critically-lauded, Oscar-winning The Piano, which earned Campion the distinction of being the first female filmmaker to have won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or award.

“It’s such a thrill to have Nicole join the wonderful cast of Top of the Lake Series 2 and continue her collaboration with Jane,” executive producer Emile Sherman said of the news, via email.

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie will also join Kidman and Moss for Top of the Lake: Season Two, which is set to air in 2017 on SundanceTV and Hulu in the U.S. and on BBC Two in the U.K.
