Shades of Blue is bringing in a Gunnslinger for season 2.

Anna Gunn is joining the cast of Jennifer Lopez’s NBC crime drama as a recurring guest-star, EW has learned. The Breaking Bad alum — who claimed two Emmys for her role as Skyler White, wife of Walter (Bryan Cranston) — will play a rising city Councilwoman who is poised to run for mayor. A former disciple of Lt. Wozniak (Ray Liotta), she spent time bending the law with Harlee (Jennifer Lopez) and her corrupt-cop crew. The forceful, chameleon-like character, who rose to the level of Captain in the NYPD, used her charismatic personality to transition into politics, and “the details of her meteoric rise and her much darker and Machiavellian side comes to the fore,” according to a description provided by the network.

Gunn will guest-star in at least eight of season 2’s 13 episodes, making her debut in the season premiere.Production on season 2 began in New York on Wednesday, and the show will return to the air midseason.

Post-Bad, Gunn has appeared on such shows as The Mindy Project, Gracepoint, Criminal Minds, and Portlandia. She starred this spring in the ABC comedy pilot Chunk & Bean, and will be seen on the big screen this fall in Tom Hanks’ biopic Sully.
