Calvin Harris, John Newman: 'Olé' released

John Newman and Calvin Haris have shared “Olé,” a collaborative track that made headlines early this week for its rumored ties to Harris’ ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

The song serves as a stylistic departure for both musicians, who’ve generally operated within the realms of pop and dance, opting instead for a breezy, islandside groove. Its lyrics recount a messy breakup, tracking a woman’s relationship woes through the eyes of the man she’s cheating with.

Though it was widely reported that Harris penned the tune around his recent breakup with Swift — who’s now dating Tom Hiddleston — sources close to the producer have denied any connection, asserting “Olé” was recorded long before the couple parted ways.

Still, that didn’t stop the internet from drawing its own conclusions. The opening line, “Low-key, you won’t tell none of your friends about me,” has been cited as a reference to Hiddleston’s Thor character, Loki. Another lyric comments on a “good girl” who takes “trips with your boyfriend.” (Swift and Hiddleston have been photographed together frequently in recent weeks.)

Harris and Newman last teamed for “Blame,” from Harris’ 2014 release Motion. Newman released his second studio album, Revolve, last October.
