Marvel series gets Fox put pilot commitment

Mutants are on the run, and they’re headed to Fox television.

The network announced Tuesday that it has made a put pilot commitment for a new Marvel action-adventure series written by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. The untitled project is to tell the story of two ordinary parents who discover their children have mutant powers, forcing them to go on the lam from a hostile government and link up with an underground network of fellow fugitives.

Although the announcement did not specifically mention the X-Men brand, the executive-producing team includes X-Men film veterans Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner. Nix will also serve as an executive producer, along with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” Fox Entertainment president David Madden said in a statement. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw.”

Fox is already home to the DC Comics-based series Gotham and Lucifer, while Nix’s project is poised to be the network’s first Marvel program. Fox had been developing a show based on Marvel’s Hellfire Club comic but is no longer moving forward on that front, as first reported by Variety.

Marvel’s other small-screen projects in the works include FX’s Legion, Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger, and several Netflix series (Luke Cage, Iron Fist).
