Shock and Awe: Woody Harrelson in talks to join Rob Reiner's Iraq War drama

Though their upcoming Lyndon B. Johnson biopic has yet to be released, Woody Harrelson is already in talks to re-team with LBJ director Rob Reiner and writer Joey Hartstone on the Iraq War drama Shock and Awe, EW has confirmed.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news on Tuesday, Shock and Awe focuses on a band of journalists investigating the Bush administration’s allegations that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.

Reiner reportedly spent years developing the project, which is set to begin production later this year. Matthew George and Michele Reiner will produce the film alongside the Oscar-nominated director.

This marks a return to Iraq War dramas for Harrelson, who previously starred in 2009’s The Messenger as an alcoholic casualty notification officer partnered with a returning military hero (Ben Foster). Harrelson received an Academy Award nomination for the role.

Specific details regarding Shock and Awe — including a premiere date and full cast announcement — have not yet been released.
