Director Christopher Guest’s new comedy Mascots will debut globally on Netflix on Oct. 13, EW can exclusively reveal. Co-written by Guest and Jim Piddock (Family Tree), the film concerns a group of sports mascots competing to win the “Gold Fluffy” at the annual World Mascot Association Championships.

The cast includes Piddock, Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley, Jr., Christopher Moynihan, Don Lake, Brad Williams, Zach Woods, Chris O’Dowd, Susan Yeagley, Sarah Baker, Tom Bennett, Kerry Godliman, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Hitchcock, Maria Blasucci, and John Michael Higgins. Mascots is produced by Karen Murphy.

“The thing that interested me initially was, here you have these people working very hard, some better than others, and yet no one sees them,” says Guest, whose previous directing credits include 1999’s Best in Show and 2003’s A Mighty Wind. “They go home and they think of themselves as performers, but they are invisible.”
