Stranger Things soundtrack playlist shared on Spotify

Stranger Things‘s score may be utterly spooky, but its soundtrack is totally ’80s. Ahead of the original score’s impending release, Netflix has shared a playlist of songs inspired by the newly debuted supernatural series.

The retro-gazing compilation draws from the show’s 1980s-set premise, featuring popular late-century hits like The Bangles’ “Hazy Shade of Winter,” David Bowie’s “Heroes,” and Foreigner’s “Waiting for a Girl Like You.” Also present is The Clash’s 1982 Combat Rock entry “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” a lead-footed punk number that plays a pivotal role in the life of protagonist Will Byers (Noah Schnapp).

Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of Austin-based band Survive penned the accompanying score, a synthy, spine-chilling collection Netflix promises to put out “soon.”

Stranger Things trails the aftermath of a young boy’s disappearance in a small Indiana town. His mother, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), enlists the help of local law enforcement to track him down, only to uncover a string of mysterious government experiments along the way. The show officially premiered on Netflix July 15, and executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer, a.k.a. the Duffer Brothers, have already teased a second season.

“There’s a bigger mythology behind what happened. It’s open-ended in a way that if people wanted it, if Netflix wanted it, we could explore and continue this storyline,” Matt Duffer told EW in July. “It’s not about just taking another monster and it’s a bigger, badder monster. We want it to feel a little bit different, maybe a little bit darker, but still have the sense of fun that we had.”
