Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder sing Happy Birthday to Tony Bennett

Pop superstars Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder teamed up to sing “Happy Birthday” in celebration of jazz singer Tony Bennett turning 90.

Taking the stage together on Wednesday evening at New York City’s Rainbow Room, Gaga and Wonder launched into an uptempo, funkified rendition of the song, with the latter on piano as he belted out the track’s lyrics alongside the “Applause” hitmaker. A full band joined them as they grooved through the track, with Bennett watching off-stage.

Gaga and Wonder also performed their own material at the event, dueting on covers of “I Wish” and “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” while Gaga sang “La Vie En Rose” and “Bad Romance” solo.

Gaga previously paid tribute to Stevie Wonder during a televised CBS special last year, during which she covered “I Wish.” Her work with Tony Bennett includes a collaborative track on Bennett’s 2011 album Duets II and a full, Grammy-winning album of covers of jazz standards, Cheek to Cheek, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2014.

“She and I are talking about doing a second album,” Bennett told Billboard in an interview posted on Wednesday. “There’ll be just wonderful songs that she and I both like.”

He added: “She’s busy right now, but at the beginning of next year we’ll start doing an album. The first one went way over a million, and it’s still selling.”
