Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, and Ben O'Toole join Kathryn Bigelow's 1967 Detroit riots drama

Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, and Ben O’Toole have joined Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled film about the 1967 Detroit riots, EW can confirm.

The three up-and-coming stars will join fellow rising talent John Boyega in the drama. Mark Boal is writing the script, reteaming with Bigelow after working with the director on The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. Plot details have not yet been released, but the story is set during the riots, which took place in summer 1967 and left 43 people dead and 340 injured. The film will address systemic racism in the Detroit area. Variety first reported the news.

Poulter broke out on the scene with roles in The Maze Runner and The Revenant. Reynor has garnered attention for Transformers: Age of Extinction and this year’s Sing Street. O’Toole stars as Pete on the TV show Love Child and appeared alongside Russell Crowe in The Water Diviner. He has an upcoming role in Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge.

Producers are looking to release the film in 2017, the 50th anniversary of the riots.
