Gregg Allman cancels tour dates due to health reasons

Gregg Allman announced the cancellation of his tour dates through Oct. 16 due to “serious health issues” in a statement released Friday.

The renowned singer-songwriter and member of The Allman Brothers Band will not perform at any of his scheduled stops for the remainder of the summer and is currently in the care of his doctor, according to the release

“I want to thank my fans and friends for supporting me while I rest up and focus on getting better and back on the road as soon as I can,” Allman said in a statement. “I’ve been working hard with my band, my pride and joy, to play our music for everyone. We’ll see y’all in October.”

The musician intends to return to the stage on Oct. 29 for his own Laid Back Festival at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA.

Earlier this summer, Allman teased that he had been working on a new album in Muscle Shoals with producer Don Was when he performed at Time Inc.’s Henry R. Luce Auditorium in New York City. The collection, he said, would be out in January. He also joked about his health at the time and told the crowd, “I started drinking juice every morning. You gotta give it seven days. You’ll have more energy.”
