Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian has weighed in on the scandal involving fellow U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte.

During an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Chelsea Handler’s eponymous Netflix talk show, Adrian broke his silence on his teammate’s fabrication of a story about being robbed, at gunpoint, outside the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro.

After Adrian admitted he’s “absolutely” competing at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Handler cued up a photo of the swimmer posing underwater in the nude.

“Look, you’re not the only one who lost their Speedo endorsement,” the host said, referencing both the swimsuit-shaped tan lines across Adrian’s bum and Monday’s news that the swimwear giant had dropped Lochte from its roster of celebrities it sponsors.

Adrian laughed as Handler probed him about the Lochte controversy, asking if he’d spoken to him on the phone since returning to America.

“Well, I mean, I probably… I texted them,” he said, referencing three other members of the U.S. swim team who were with Lochte at the time of the incident. “[I said] I’m glad you guys are safe. That was [of] No. 1 importance to us. [I said] I’m glad you guys are back in the U.S. and you’re safe and sound.”

On Monday morning, Lochte himself addressed his misconduct during an interveiw with Matt Lauer.

“I’m just really sorry,” Lochte said, after various testimonies (and security footage) debunked claims that he and his teammates had been robbed at gunpoint at a Rio gas station, when in fact the group had been stopped by security for behaving belligerently. “I’m embarrassed for myself, my family, those guys, USA swimming, the Olympic games, everyone watching. I was immature and I made a stupid mistake. I’m human, I made a mistake, and I definitely learned from this.”
