America's Got Talent: Grace VanderWaal shines with Light the Sky

She may be just 12 years old, but Grace VanderWaal has proven yet again that she is both an incredibly talented singer and thoughtful songwriter. VanderWaal, whom judge Simon Cowell has dubbed "the next Taylor Swift," took to the America's Got Talent stage on Tuesday night to deliver a stirring performance of her original song "Light The Sky."

Equipped with her ukelele, VanderWaal strummed along while delicately crooning the uplifting lyrics: "We're brighter than fireflies; we're gonna light the sky." The performance begins soft and quaint, backed by quiet percussion and strings, before VanderWaal starts belting out the final chorus. Immediately after finishing the number, all four judges gave VanderWaal a standing ovation.

Though Tuesday's performance was for the show's semifinals, it's actually only the third song VanderWaal has sung on America's Got Talent thanks to judge Howie Mandel hitting the golden buzzer after her audition and sending her straight to the quarterfinal round. In the quarterfinals last week, VanderWaal performed another original song called "Beautiful Thing."
