After a decade of switching back and forth between music and film, Justin Timberlake has seemingly decided on “Why not both?”

This past week, Timberlake has been in Toronto promoting Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids, the Jonathan Demme-directed concert film from the 20/20 Experience World Tour set to hit Netflix next month. In November, he’ll star as lead voice actor in the animated film Trolls, on which Timberlake served as executive music producer and contributed four original songs.

But in between all the film work, he’s also been chipping away at a new album. It would be his first since 2013’s The 20/20 Experience – Part 2 of 2, though Timberlake has remained pretty tight-lipped about the project.

Speaking with EW to promote the Netflix concert film, Timberlake commented briefly on the new album, saying that the process has been “lovely” so far.

After such a packed fall, Timberlake isn’t sure what the timeline of his output looks like going forward… or at least, he isn’t willing to say at this point.

“Anything moving forward, I’m not sure,” he said. “I’ve been in and out of the studio, obviously, with some of my more frequent — and less frequent — collaborators. I guess I’m resigned to the fact that I’m a tortoise when it comes to this process. I can’t imagine doing it any other way. I just feel like it’s so important to never have the cart before the horse when it comes to making a record.”

Rumors have abounded about a new record since earlier this year, when Timberlake discussed the possibility of working with The Weeknd on BBC Radio.

But even if that’s the case, it doesn’t sound like Timberlake is in a hurry to get a new album out. “I’m working on it here and there, but I’m also enjoying being a dad,” he said, referencing his 1-year-old son Silas with wife Jessica Biel. “The answer to your question is, ‘I don’t know.'”
