Emmys 2016: Veep wins best comedy

This is one election Selina Meyer did win, if you will.

For the second year in a row, Veep took home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. The cast took the stage at the 68th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday to accept the award.

“Holy crap. I have a 9:30 a.m. library shift for my son’s school tomorrow morning — if anyone is willing to trade with me, email me,” executive producer and showrunner David Mandel said before thanking many, including his inspirations, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, as well as Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Instagram (while she took a selfie on stage, of course).

“This should be an easy job because I get to work with Julia Louis-Dreyfus who just makes it easy,” he added. “I love you.”

In conclusion, Mandel dedicated the award to “chubby Jews from the Upper West Side, embrace who you are.”

As the cast and crew stepped onstage to accept the award, the star herself tripped, but recovered with her usual class.

The HBO comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hale, and a phenomenal ensemble cast, has been nominated every year its been on the air, making this its fifth time in the Emmy race. Veep beat out fellow nominees Transparent, Modern Family, black-ish, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Silicon Valley, and Master of None.
