Andy Richter isn’t happy with the New York Times‘ Ross Douthat.

The Conan sidekick took to social media to vent his frustrations over an essay Douthat wrote for the publication’s Opinions Pages, titled “Clinton’s Samantha Bee Problem,” in which the writer accuses Bee of damaging the Democratic presidential nominee’s bid for the White House by contributing to what he calls the “rapid colonization of new cultural territory by an ascendant social liberalism.”

Douthat argues Bee’s criticism of Fallon, following public backlash against the talk show host’s lighthearted interview with Donald Trump last week, continues a dangerous trend in an ongoing “culture war,” which Douthat says is pushing “areas once considered relatively apolitical” across “an overtly left-wing party line.” He also cites the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ attempts to racially diversify its voting ranks and ESPN awarding Caitlyn Jenner its Arthur Ashe Award as examples of how the act of traditionally-liberal institutions shifting further left has “dramatically raised expectations for just how far left our politics can move, while insulating many liberals from the harsh realities of political disagreement in a sprawling, 300-plus million person republic.”

“8 yrs of GOP kleptocracy into 8 yrs of GOP obstruction & @DouthatNYT‘s take seems to be ‘gee liberals sure are bitchy these days,'” he wrote. “… heaven forbid that an area of the tv industry, while in pursuit of a young audience, should reflect young people’s opinions. Also very notable that the female candidates “problem” is the female host who dares to call out one of the boys’ club.”

Richter ended his rant with a critique of Trump.

“And for those who still refuse to get it: THIS IS NOT MITT ROMNEY. OVERT RACIST DEMAGOGUERY CHANGES EVERYTHING,” he tweeted.

Douthat later responded to Richter’s words, joking that the article is “an implicitly pro-Conan column.”
