Chris Pratt: Fishing on Magnificent Seven set got him in trouble

Chris Pratt had to master a lot of skills for his role in The Magnificent Seven, such as shooting a gun and riding a horse. What he ended up doing the most of, however, was fishing, and it got him in some hot water.

During a recent SiriusXM Town Hall interview with the director and cast of Magnificent Seven, in theaters Friday, Pratt was asked about his frequent experiences filming in Louisiana. The Parks and Recreation alum was more eager to talk about his off-camera work on the film.

“The final battle sequence in Rose Creek, this set that they built, it was on this big chunk of private land and there were a couple of ponds on there and they were stocked with bass,” shared Pratt. “So I was loving it when the rain would come and they had to shut down production. Everyone is like, ‘God dang it.” I’m like, ‘I’m going fishing!’ I must have fished 100, 200 hours on this movie.”

While Pratt enjoyed his hundreds of fishing adventures, not everyone was as happy to hear about them, according to his costar Ethan Hawke.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell this, but one time you Instagrammed a picture of one of the fish you caught,” recalled Hawke. “And then the owner of the place [said], ‘Is he fishing in my pond?’ All of a sudden we got the red alert, we had to stop fishing. But we didn’t.”

Considering his success catching the fish, Pratt understands the owner’s frustration. “She was mad, she was like pretty furious,” laughed Pratt. “And she should be. They were really nice fish and I caught all of them.”
