Underworld: Blood Wars trailer: Kate Beckinsale is the key to the future

Kate Beckinsale’s Selene has learned a thing or two since the war between vampires and Lycans began in the first Underworld. Now, in the New York Comic-Con trailer for the franchise’s fifth installment, Underworld: Blood Wars, she pulls out a few new tricks.

The Screen Gems panel played host to some of the film’s cast members and this new footage. As it turns out, Selene’s blood is the key to the future of both supernatural races. The true extent of that cryptic statement is still unclear, but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that she can move at speeds inconceivable to the vampiric eye.

In Blood Wars, the Lycan clan is led by Marius (Tobias Menzies), but it seems both the Lycans and vampires are after the blood of Selene and her daughter. Her only allies in this fight are David (Theo James) and his father, Thomas (Charles Dance). Elsewhere, we see Lara Pulver, who played a fairy in the vampire-werewolf drama True Blood, joining the vamp team as Semira.

Underworld: Blood Wars is directed by Anna Foerster and set for theaters on Jan. 6. Watch the trailer above.
