Predator: Benicio Del Toro out, Boyd Holbrook in

Fox's hunt for a leading man for The Predator has taken a turn. Benicio Del Toro is no longer in negotiations to star in the Shane Black-directed movie, EW has learned, and Narcos actor Boyd Holbrook is in talks to replace him.

EW confirmed last month that Del Toro (Sicario, Che) was circling the project, which marks the fourth standalone film in the sci-fi franchise, but a deal was not reached. Fox declined to comment.

Holbrook, known for playing DEA agent Steve Murphy on Netflix's cartel thriller Narcos, doesn't have the name recognition of Del Toro but is something of a rising star. His big-screen credits include Fox's Gone Girl, Morgan, and upcoming Wolverine threequel Logan, in which he's portraying the villain.

Black has history with the Predator series, having starred in the original 1987 film, and he has characterized the new installment as an "inventive sequel" rather than a reboot. The Predator is scheduled to arrive in theaters Feb. 9, 2018.

As for Del Toro, his upcoming films include Star Wars: Episode VIII, The Corporation, and a follow-up to Sicario.
