Michael B. Jordan, Danny Glover, Michael K. Williams star in new PSA about police violence

The second presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton took place in St. Louis, where two years ago, protests in Ferguson, Missouri over the killing of Michael Brown brought the Black Lives Matter movement to the national stage, and began a wave of protests against police violence. Clinton and Trump were not asked about police violence or racial bias in policing once during their 90-minute debate, but that doesn’t mean the problem has gone away. According to The Washington Post‘s database, 751 people have been shot and killed by police this year alone. And on Monday longtime civil rights activist Harry Belafonte released a new PSA against police killings of black people: “Against the Wall.”

Directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, the video — released by Belafonte’s sankofa.org — features several black actors and celebrities (including Michael B. Jordan, Michael K. Williams, and Danny Glover, among others) silently forced against a wall, as audio plays from recordings of police calls and shooting incidents. Glover’s role, for instance, is soundtracked by an Anderson Cooper story of a 68-year-old black man getting tasered, beanbagged, and finally shot and killed by multiple police officers. At one point there’s audio of police firing on a black man, and Williams transitions from standing against the wall to laying on the ground. The video ends with audio of pundits arguing whether a police shooting of a black man counts as murder or not, while the phrase “Black Is Not a Weapon” appears on screen. The final image is the black power symbol of a raised fist.
