Donald Trump: Meryl Streep, Amy Schumer, blast candidate in sexual assault PSA

Oscar nominated director Liz Garbus created a politically charged PSA video featuring stars like Meryl Streep, Amy Schumer, Lena Dunham, Whoopi Goldberg, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as well as survivors of sexual assault. Throughout the video, women and girls describe what was said to them by their attackers, and comment on GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s remarks about women.

Rose McGowan has tweeted about her own sexual assault experience and shares in the video, “I was 14 years old.”

“I think people like Donald Trump will never understand the correlation that women understand between words and actions,” Amber Tamblyn says. “Especially when you’re a man in a position of power and you talk publicly and you say those things you are telling the world — you are telling everyone — that it’s okay to behave that way.”

Women continue to tell their stories interspersed with clips from news organizations discussing the sexual assault allegations against Trump before showing the Republican nominee telling a crowd, “These claims are all fabricated.”

In the video, women describe how their own claims were discredited and people did not believe them. “We’re not going to take it anymore,” Tamblyn says, “Like, for real we’re not.” The video participants and stars like Streep, Rosie Perez, Sarah Jones, Sarah Sophie Flicker, and Martha Plimpton join in telling viewers, “It’s not okay.”

Garbus said in a statement what inspired her to make the video: “Like so many others, I have been horrified and saddened by the language used in the Trump campaign to describe women, people of color, immigrants, the disabled, and others.”

When the Access Hollywood video, in which Trump made statements about kissing and touching women inappropriately, was released, Garbus wanted “to share the OTHER side of the story — stories of women being objectified, kissed, groped, and humiliated by the words and actions of others. These words and actions have a huge effect on women’s lives. And we are here to say, together, in one loud voice, that this is NOT OKAY.”
