Joseph Gordon-Levitt is headed into orbit. The Snowden actor is on board to star in Sovereign, a sci-fi thriller from British director Marc Munden, EW has confirmed.
Jack Thorne, the playwright of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is rewriting the script, which centers on a man (Gordon-Levitt) searching for his estranged wife and the crew of a space station after they’ve gone missing.
Geoff Tock and Gregory Weidman wrote the previous draft of the screenplay, and Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen are producing.
Gordon-Levitt can currently be seen playing the title role in Snowden, Oliver Stone’s political thriller about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Gordon-Levitt’s other film projects in the works include a Fraggle Rock movie, the historical drama K Troop, and a musical comedy with Channing Tatum.
Munden and Thorne recently collaborated on the British miniseries National Treasure.
Deadline first reported the news about Gordon-Levitt.
