David Bowie's 'Killing a Little Time' released

Another new David Bowie track was released Wednesday. The proggy cut, “Killing a Little Time,” was recorded during the sessions for Bowie’s final studio album, Blackstar, with that project’s supporting musical cast: longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti, jazz saxophonist Donny McCaslin, and McCaslin’s ensemble.

“Killing a Little Time” will appear on the Lazarus Cast Album, due out Friday. The record contains versions of Bowie classics performed by the cast of Lazarus, the 2015 musical that was one of the icon’s final projects. But it’s perhaps even more notable for three non-Lazarus cuts: “Killing a Little Time,” “No Plan,” and “When I Met You” are three previously unreleased tracks from Bowie’s final studio sessions. The latter two songs debuted Tuesday on BBC Radio.

Bowie made his final appearance at the December 2015 premiere of Lazarus. “He seemed truly at peace and was excited by what he was experiencing,” New York Theatre Workshop artistic director James Nicola told EW shortly after Bowie’s death. “He floated into the lobby, really happy.”

Though Lazarus ended its New York run earlier this year, Michael C. Hall will reprise his leading role when the production opens in London on Nov. 8. The show’s script will also be published on Nov. 10.
