Not even being a two-time Oscar winner was enough to keep Hilary Swank from experiencing the Hollywood wage gap firsthand.

During an episode of Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show, Chelsea, Swank revealed to the episode’s roundtable that she was once offered $500,000 for a role to her potential male costar’s $10 million offer.

“I win my second Academy Award, and the next couple of movies later, I get offered a movie, but the male [actor] hadn’t had any kind of critical success, but had been in a movie where he was hot,” she explained. “And he got offered $10 million, and I got offered $500,000.”

The second Academy Award Swank was referring to was for her role in the sports drama, Million Dollar Baby.

In the end, the role was give to another actress who was willing to take an even smaller cut after Swank turned it down.

“They went and found a newcomer who did it for $50,000,” she continued. “They made a savings of $450,000, probably to give the guy his bonuses.”
