Oscar-winning director Ang Lee pushed the technological envelope while filming Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk in 3D at 120 frames-per-second with 4K HD clarity, and EW has an exclusive first look at the film’s sleek visuals in an explosive new trailer for the upcoming drama.

Newcomer Joe Alwyn fronts the film’s ensemble cast as a 19-year-old Iraq War veteran suffering from the beginning stages of post-traumatic stress disorder in 2004, as his squad prepares to take the halftime show stage alongside Destiny’s Child at a fictitious football match on Thanksgiving Day.

The new clip shows off John Toll’s striking cinematography, and teases the heartfelt performances of the film’s cast. Though Alwyn has never toplined a major motion picture before, he’s joined onscreen by several well-known actors, including Vin Diesel, Kristen Stewart, Steve Martin, Chris Tucker, and Garrett Hedlund, all of whom can be seen in the trailer above.

Following Billy Lynn‘s Oct. 14 world premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival, Lee revealed it took him over a year to edit the final project, noting he was uncharacteristically nervous to show the finished product to an audience because of its ambitious, never-before-seen look.

“The movie is what it is, but it’s new to our eyes,” Lee told moviegoers of the film’s specs, which only two theaters in the United States are equipped to project, as the standard frame rate for movies is typically 24 frames-per-second. “Clarity is very soothing. Our eyes want it. This is beautiful, at least to my eyes, but then I found something else. I had to change the way I direct. I would pitch [the actors] a lot of thoughts to see if they even looked alive on the screen… just to look like a real person is a big task [here]… We had to pitch different thoughts, different temperatures, all senses, all memories, all thoughts, because that’s what life does to us. It was never that simple as one direction or task… I pitched them different things with each take.”

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk opens Nov. 11 in limited release before hitting theaters nationwide on Nov. 18 via TriStar. Watch EW’s exclusive trailer for the new film above.
