Kate Bosworth is taking center stage to bring one of Hollywood’s more horrid tragedies to life.

The Superman Returns actress is set to play late actress Sharon Tate in an adaptation of Greg King’s book Sharon Tate and the Manson Murders, EW has confirmed. Bosworth’s husband, filmmaker Michael Polish (Twin Falls Idaho, The Astronaut Farmer), will direct the film and write the screenplay.

Tate made her big-screen debut in the 1966 horror film Eye of the Devil. The wife of director Roman Polanski (Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown) and Dallas native was a rising Hollywood star when she was murdered by the Charles Manson Family. The Mansons appeared at Tate’s house in Los Angeles late on in Aug. 9, 1969 and killed Tate and four others. She was 26 years old and two weeks away from giving birth to a son.

Added Bosworth: “I know [Polish] will bring true beauty and grace to Sharon’s story.”

Sharon Tate marks the fourth time Bosworth and Polish have collaborated; they previously worked together on Big Sur, Amnesiac, and 90 Minutes in Heaven.

Deadline first reported the news.
