Harry Potter costume designer's favorite look might surprise you

'I think I could not have done better,' Jany Temime says in week 4 of EW's BINGE podcast

Costume designer Jany Temime has contributed a lot to the Harry Potter series, having worked on Prisoner of Azkaban all the way through Deathly Hallows — Part 2, but out of everything she's done, she was able to nail down a favorite look.

In episode four of EW's Binge, which also features an interview with Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum), Temime tells hosts Marc Snetiker and C. Molly Smith that while the school gowns are probably her signature design, the ones she thinks are best are of a darker variety. "I really love Voldemort and Bellatrix," Temime says. "I think I could not have done better for Voldemort… I mean there were so many things which were brilliant, but I'm just thinking from my heart, it's always so hard to represent the devil and I think I did [with] Voldemort."

Part of her approach was to give the Dark Lord (Ralph Fiennes) a sense of otherworldliness. "I started with the silk, a lot of layers of silk because the man is a spirit, like Dumbledore," Temime explains, adding that she brought in green for Slytherin — rather than black, as that was "too banal" and reserved for Death Eaters — and chambray for it's faded look and movement. "Both of them, they might be huge personalities and characters, but they shouldn't be tangible."

Then there's Bellatrix, played by Helena Bonham Carter whom Temime says had a lot of enthusiasm. "She loved being Bellatrix and she loved the costume," Temime recalls. "She said, ‘It's so nice being a baddie. It's a lot more sexy.'" What's more, "The corset was never tight enough because she wanted to feel the power and the craziness." That power and crazy certainly shows on screen.

As for Bellatrix's fellow Death Eaters, "It took us a while to design them and bring that element of fright, but also sort of history and at the same time glamour, because they had to be glamorous," Temime says. "It's a glamorous, powerful army — satanic army, although we don't use that word, but it's the army of the bad." All together, with silver masks and more, she calls them "frighteningly beautiful." <iframe src="https://art19.com/shows/ews-binge/episodes/fb7ff784-bd30-4461-9ee7-3d44adfb2aab/embed?theme=light-gray-blue" scrolling="no" width="100%" height="460" frameborder="0" class="" allowfullscreen="" resize="0" replace_attributes="1" name=""></iframe>
