Bruce Springsteen at Hamilton: The Boss jokes about Mike Pence

Bruce Springsteen saw Broadway smash Hamilton with his wife Patti Scialfa on Sunday, sharing a photo in front of the show’s sign.

“From Patti: At Hamilton Sunday matinee — looking for VP elect Pence,” Springsteen tweeted. The Boss also hashtagged “freedom of speech,” and linked to Scialfa’s Instagram post where she wrote, “raise a glass to freedom.”

Springsteen was, of course, referencing the recent controversy surrounding Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s visit to the show on Friday. Fans booed him when he walked into the theater and actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, addressed him directly during curtain call, saying, “We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us, all of us.”

The Vice President-elect has since said he was not “offended” by the statement while President-elect Donald Trump expressed his displeasure about the events saying Pence was “harassed” and demanded an apology.

Dixon did no such thing, though, when he appeared on CBS This Morning on Monday. “There’s nothing to apologize for,” the actor told the show’s co-hosts.
