Unless you used a TARDIS to skip over the assorted, let us say, excitements offered up by 2016 so far, then it will probably seem like a long time since the last new episode of British sci-fi show Doctor Who. But Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord will return on Dec. 25 for the annual special Christmas episode, and BBC America has just released both the show’s poster and synopsis.

What do we learn from the latter? Well, the episode — titled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” — will find our titular hero joining forces with a masked superhero for what is being teased as an “epic” New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole (Matt Lucas) link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

“The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is written by Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat and costars Justin Chatwin (Shameless) and Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall). The episode airs on BBC America at 9 p.m. ET and will be preceded in the days before by a Doctor Who marathon. The new season of Doctor Who will premiere alongside spin-off Class in spring of next year.
