Aquaman will make a splash in fall 2018.

Warner Bros. announced Friday that the James Wan-directed superhero movie starring Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven Seas is scheduled to hit theaters Oct. 5, 2018. It will also screen in 3-D and Imax.

Based on the enduring DC Comics character, Momoa’s Aquaman was introduced earlier this year by way of a brief scene in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he’ll feature more prominently in next year’s team-up movie Justice League.

Wan recently told Entertainment Tonight that for his take on Aquaman, “The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high-seas adventure story.” He added, “It’s a quest story potentially in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

Aquaman was previously expected to open in July 2018 but had not been officially scheduled. It currently has its October release date to itself.
