John Lennon: George Harrison estate tweets throwback photo for death anniversary

To celebrate John Lennon’s life, the estate for George Harrison posted a tribute photo of the two former Beatles from the group’s early days.

On Thursday, 36 years after Lennon was murdered, Harrison’s estate-maintained Twitter account tweeted a black-and-white photo of the two men together as young lads.

“He would come around my house a lot and my mother would give us little glasses of whiskey #quote #RememberingJohn,” the caption reads.

Harrison, who was three years younger than Lennon, considered Lennon a mentor of sorts during the group’s initial days. Tensions arose throughout the band’s later years, however, including a 1969 riff during the Let It Be sessions where Harrison stormed out, telling Lennon he’d “see [him] ’round the clubs.”

Even so, the two repaired their friendship before Lennon’s death.

“I was in New York at his house at the Dakota,” Harrison recalled in a 1990 interview of the last time he saw Lennon before his death. “He was nice, he was just sort of running around the house making dinner. [But] I hadn’t seen him for so long. I didn’t see him for two years anyway, occasionally maybe send a postcard, and it’s knowing that he’s on the other end of the telephone if you do want to call — that’s the difference. Now you need the big cosmic telephone to speak to him. We’ll meet again somewhere down the line.”

Harrison died in 2001.
