Carpool Karaoke: Bruno Mars sings Uptown Funk, Locked Out of Heaven

And tries on some hats with James Corden

ALL CROPS: Bruno Mars Carpool Karaoke

Tuesday night on The Late Late Show, James Corden went on a mission to Mars.

Bruno Mars hopped into Corden’s passenger seat — still warm from Madonna — and they took a tour of his hits, which included “Uptown Funk, “Locked Out Of Heaven,” “Grenade, and “If I Knew,” as well as new tunes like “24K Magic,” “Versace on the Floor,” and “Perm.”

There was also a taste of Elvis’ Jailhouse Rock,” as Mars explained that he first knew he wanted to perform at the age of 4 when he began impersonating the King. (He promised a Fat Bruno stage of his career: “If that doesn’t happen, then I didn’t make it.”)

The ride also involved a parade of colorful hats, which were tried on by both of them. Corden praised Mars and his ability to pull off a silky sartorial shirt, noting, “If I wore that, I’d look like I’m having a breakdown.” During a performance of “Versace on the Floor,” our host received a largely unsuccessful lesson in sexy shoulder movements and lip-licking. And in other news, Mars was asked about his tour rider, which led to a rap involving wine and wet wipes.

The energy did not waver as they cruised through Mars’ catologue, and Corden threw on some matching duds as they took on “Perm,” prompting Corden to declare at the end of the ride: “I’ve never felt more alive.”
