Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy wins first Emmy for acting

The co-creator of Schitt's Creek earlier won writing and directing Emmys.

Well, Schitt! Schitt's Creek star and co-creator Daniel Levy won his first acting Emmy when he received Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy on Sunday night, after winning Emmys for his writing and directing work on the show earlier in the night.

"First of all, I would not be here if it weren't for the six-year masterclass that was led by two brilliant comedic minds that I have had the good fortune of working with for the past six seasons, my dad Eugene Levy and the magnificent Catherine O'Hara, who led by example," Levy said during his acceptance speech. "They led without ego and they led with excitement and the trickle effect of that was felt through everybody. And as actors, we were given the safety and the security to do what we wanted and to try and to experiment and to grow because of you."

Levy also thanked Annie Murphy, who plays his on-screen sister Alexis, for being his "better half." "Thank you for your unbelievable work on this show," he said. "And to play David Rose this has been the greatest experience of my life."

Levy, who conceived the Pop TV sitcom with dad Eugene Levy, said goodbye this year to Schitt's Creek with its sixth and final season. The actor portrayed David, son to Johnny (Eugene) and Moira (Catherine O'Hara) Rose. The wealthy family was forced to relocate to the small, rural town of Schitt's Creek when they lost all their money. Comedy and surprising tearjerker moments ensued.

Schitt's Creek launched on Canada through Pop TV before gaining more global popularity through distribution on Netflix. Following the series finale, the show earned 15 Emmy nominations and already won Outstanding Casting for a Comedy at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Also nominated in the Supporting Actor category were Andrew Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Mahershala Ali (Ramy), Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), Alan Arkin (The Kominsky Method), Sterling K.
